The Rev. Dr. Joseph (Jody) Gilbert Moore

 

The Rev. Dr. Joseph G. (Jody) Moore, Jr. is Pastor/Head of Staff at Outer Banks Presbyterian Church.  He has served the church continuously since 2011.  He first served as Interim Pastor for two years (2011-2013) and then as Installed Designated Pastor for another two years (2013-2015), prior to his Call by the Congregation in July 2015 as Pastor/Head of Staff, in accordance with requirements of the Presbytery of New Hope, consistent with the Presbyterian Church(USA)’s Book of Order.  The Rev. Dr. Moore is a 1999 graduate of Davidson College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude.  He received his Master of Divinity degree in 2003 from Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, where he was president of his class.  He received the Doctor of Ministry degree at Columbia Theological Seminary in 2015.

 

Prior to coming to Outer Banks Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Dr. Moore served as Interim Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, NC from 2009-2011.  He was Associate Pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville, VA from 2003-2009.

 

A lifelong Presbyterian, the Rev. Dr. Moore is a native of Raleigh.  He grew up in the White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.  In addition to his previous pastorates, he was hospital chaplain in 2002 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.  His pastoral internship was at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Asheville in 2001.

 

The Rev. Dr. Moore is active in the North Dare County Ministerial Association and is currently the Co-President of the group.  He is actively involved in the Presbytery of New Hope and served on the

Committee for Preparation for the Ministry from 2012-2017.  He was the Moderator and Vice-Moderator of the Committee, which meets monthly with inquirers and candidates who are interested in becoming Ministers of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA).  In 2017, Rev. Dr. Moore participated in a ten-day pilgrimage to Israel.  In 2012-13, he helped Hollywood Presbyterian Church in Greenville, NC complete its mission study.  He served as the director of Serving and Learning Together, a Presbyterian leadership program for youth and adults, at Massanetta Springs, VA in 2010-11.  The Rev. Dr. Moore also has a record of distinguished service to the Presbytery of the Peaks in Virginia, where he served as chair or member of various Presbytery councils, commissions, and committees.

 

The Rev. Dr. Moore and Jeanne Kearney of Jacksonville, NC were married in February 2012.  Jeanne Moore is a respected member of the Outer Banks medical community, serving as a Physician Assistant at the Outer Banks Hospital Urgent Care Center and Family Medicine. Mrs. Moore is a graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine.  The Moores are parents of twins Joseph and Anna, who were born in August 2015.
